All parents or other family members are encouraged to pick one or two ways to volunteer with the Hilhi band. The most common volunteer opportunities are listed below:
- Pit Crew: Help move front ensemble instruments (like marimbas) and equipment onto the field for performances (football games and competitions)
- Chuck Wagon: Help prepare and serve meals to students and volunteers; clean-up afterward (competitions and band camp)
- Compound Set-Up & Take-Down:
- Tents: Set up and breakdown large tents for students to use as shelter; store them properly back at Hilhi (competitions)
- Drive Trailer/Uhaul: Load, unload, and transport instruments and equipment from Hilhi to event locations. Band trailer is 7000 lbs GVWR. (football games, competitions)
- Chaperones:
- Bus: Ensure all kids are on the bus, general monitoring of students (football games, competitions)
- Parades: Walk alongside the band on parade route
- Other Events (e.g., band camp): Monitor students, assist Mr. Fotland
- Snack Shack: Serve food and handle cash for concession stand (football games)
- Uniforms: Assist Uniform Lead with fittings and overall management of the uniforms (football games, parades, and competitions)
- Apparel: Coordinate the design and purchase of band t-shirts and other clothing items
- Fundraising: Work with Board Vice President to coordinate individual fundraising opportunities such as holiday wreaths and See’s Candies sales
- Photography/Videography: Attend some of the band events and take photos or video to be shared on the band website, via Facebook, etc.
